Burnout Is Not Just About Being Tired

Most people think burnout means exhaustion. It does, but that is only part of the picture. The tiredness of burnout is the kind that rest and weekends do not fix.

Burnout also shows up as cynicism. You might feel detached from work you used to care about, or notice that nothing you do feels good enough. You might start dreading Monday by Saturday afternoon, or find yourself snapping at the people you love.

I know burnout from the inside. I went through it while working for a large mental health company, and recovering from it reshaped how I live and work. It is a big part of why I opened my own practice.

Here is what I learned: burnout recovery is not just about rest. It is about understanding what drained you, looking honestly at your workload and your expectations of yourself, and rebuilding a life that does not lead straight back to empty. You do not have to hit the wall to get support. If you can feel yourself heading toward burnout, that is reason enough to reach out.
